Friday Fancy… Precious
I love advertisements on the underground. I spend so much of my life down there – mostly because of the utter crappiness of the Hammersmith & City line – that seeing the ads for new movies, exhibitions and theatre is almost like a life-line for my social life. And I was super excited the other day to see that a poster informing me that Precious has finally gotten a release date here.
Some of you may have heard about this film – it’s been hailed and praised and described as completely harrowing and utterly courageous in nearly every review it’s gotten. Based on the book ‘Push’, by American author-and-poet Sapphire, Precious deals with a number of themes many of us would rather not have to deal with – having only as yet seen the trailer (and read a lot of feminist commentary on the film itself), I know I’m going to leave the theatre in tears.
The film itself boasts an interesting – and definitely noteworthy – cast, including actress and comedian Mo’Nique, Mariah Carey and Lenny Kravitz, as well as Paula Patton as Precious’ inspirational (lesbian) teacher. Our seemingly unlikely heroine herself is played by Gabourey Sidibe, who, despite her inexperience, has been lauded for an excellent and brave performance.
Precious comes out in the UK on the 29th of January. What do you think of the trailer? Will you go watch it?

I cannot WAIT to see this film. I’m even more excited about it than I was about ‘Cracks’. (actually as excited- hey, Eva Green isn’t in this one). And there was a good interview with Sidibe in the Saturday Telegraph magazine- she seems like a really good young actress, and a pretty sorted person in general.

Watched this last night…it was really good, so real, moving and unpretentious!!!
It’s a ‘must-see’ for every woman out there!
