Friday Fancy Redux: Ivan E Coyote
by Devil’s Food Cake
OHMYGODYOUGUYS I haven’t been this excited since I found out Lip Service was ending. Ivan E Coyote – you know, I wrote about her before – has her very own, brand new column. You know what this means, right? A regular fix of the kind of writing that makes me tangle my hair around my fingers and sigh (I KNOW I KNOW, how emodramatic is that? BUT IT’S TRUE).
Okay, it’s not new – apparently it’s been around since last November and I just never got around to finding it. But thanks to Tumblr – which also brings you hot girls on bikes – I have totally found it now and I like it, I like it very much. An excerpt from a recent, illuminating offering on the rejection of butch women/identity by someone who considers herself a “normal” lesbian.
“Because these are my people. My people fight for the rights of all of us. We fight for the queers of colour, the disabled, the poor, the infected, the tattooed and the tarnished, and even for you, Eve. “
And also this, because it is lovely:
“That’s the thing about stories. They can be so deceptively simple on the outside, and at the same time worm their way inside your heart and sideways tackle your loves, your fears, and fate, God, religion and hope, and remind you of the saddest thing that ever happened at the same time as you are laughing at the humanity of it all.“
