If you answered ‘yes’ to that question, great. Here are the details for the first one:
Where? Ray’s Jazz Cafe, above Foyle’s on Charing Cross Road
When? June 5th at 1 pm
For simplicity’s sake, we’ve decided the first book ourselves – we’ll be reading Ann Bannon’s lesbian pulp fiction gem Beebo Brinker, which some of you may be familiar with already. If you’re not, here’s a synopsis:
Beebo Brinker is a butch 17-year-old farm girl, newly arrived in Greenwich Village during the Beat era, after being kicked out of her Wisconsin home town for wearing her brother’s clothes to the State Fair. With nowhere to turn she is befriended at once by Jack Mann, a lonely, thirtysomething gay man who teaches wide-eyed Beebo the ropes of queer living. Together they explore the underground Village bars, where she finds ‘love that smoulders in the shadows of the twilight world’ falling for a glamour girl among the Bohemian set.
You should be able to find the book almost anywhere, but if I may, try and get your copy from Gay’s The Word – it’s always nice to give your custom to an independent bookstore, especially ones that are LGBT businesses. Plus, GTW is awesome.

We’re getting people to vote on the book for the next one – we just picked a book for the first meeting for ease of organization. But Fun Home is on the list already – so hopefully!
