Things Lesbians Like #5: Leather
Oh leather. Normally, the idea of wearing an animal’s skin makes me cringe and die a little. But there’s just something about good leather. Black, brown, tan, white – whatever. There’s just something about the stuff that makes me swoon a little inside. And no wonder. Is there really anything sexier than a girl in a good leather jacket?
Not one lesbian I know doesn’t own something in leather. And not one lesbian I know doesn’t find a woman wearing leather a little irresistible. I’m no exception – I know for a fact I own three pairs of leather boots, a gorgeous leather jacket and more random leather cuffs and chokers than I can remember. And obviously, there’s a level of hypocrisy to my love of leather – I abhor people who wear fur, but leather gets a free pass (even though I don’t eat beef for religious reasons – d’oh).
When I first came out, one of the first things I did was buy a leather cuff, the kind I saw my crushes wearing. Now, I’m not at all butch, and at this point I probably wore my bodyweight in glitter, but I swear there was something about that cuff that made me feel gayer, like a sudden red pill that took me through the mirror and immediately into the lesbian motherland. And, although I look back now and wonder what exactly possessed me to pair a leather cuff with a summer dress, I loved it then.
And I love leather now. There’s something about it that’s so hot in a really primal, base way. Maybe it’s because of the crap we grow up with about what ‘good’ girls wear, and what ‘bad’ girls wear. Maybe it’s because it’s not considered a very girly thing, so a hot androgyny factor kicks in. Maybe there’s something about wearing leather that makes a girl seem a little harder, a little more dangerous. Whatever it is, I wouldn’t say no. I personally love leather on a woman – jackets, trousers, boots, cuffs, gloves, vests… I could go on, but I’m risking drooling on my keyboard just thinking about it.

Leather is for shoes and bags. Anything else makes me feel vaguely ill.
I think it’s the smell of leather that makes it so attractive. There is definately something so wonderfully decadent about it. I own 3 pairs of leather boots, two leather corsets and one metal studded leather collar, definately my most kinkiest item of clothing!
I remember this conversation I had with a friend of mine when I was about 18 and thought i was bi.
Me: When I want to pull girls, I wear my leather jacket. When I want to pull boys, I wear my pink one.
Friend: But you never wear your pink jacket.
Me: oh yeah
