Music Video Monday…Lisa Ray – In NFAK’s Afreen Afreen

It’s a Monday morning and I can’t think straight! And what better way to dream away those post-weekend blues than to a beautifully composed song by the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (NFAK), and importantly a video featuring the gorgeous Lisa Ray – a video that many newcomers to the Lisa Ray fan base may have left undiscovered.Most gay girls know Lisa from her role as the glamorous and sexy Jordanian lesbian in the movie ‘I Can’t Think Straight’; for her Bollywood debut role as the risqué lawyer In ‘Kasoor’, or later in Deepa Mehta’s ‘Water’, where she played a political role as an oppressed, yet hauntingly beautiful widow alive during colonial India. Very few remember her in Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s music video for the song ‘Afreen’ (O’ the most beautiful one), or well, not until she became an acclaimed actress; and for some, not until she started blogging her fight against terminal cancer in her ‘Yellow Diaries’.

This video captures the true free-spirit of Lisa Ray, and personally I feel she is at her most beautiful here. Very few actresses have had the privilege to star in NFAK’s videos; however, I think the ‘Qawwali ‘ music style captures her colourful career and exotic roots. Sometimes mistaken for being Middle Eastern; Lisa Ray is in fact a hot mix of Canadian, Bengali Indian and Polish. The lyrics are an almost-perfect ode to her beauty. Enjoy.
