This video is a glossed-up, commercialised rip-off of Margarita Louca’s video for Wet Dog’s Wymmin’s Final, the one that enya linked to: http://vimeo.com/11867056. Particularly in the climactic, cake-everywhere finale. Bad, bad form.
funny how much this looks like a watered down commercial remake of the video enya posted.
The Wet Dog one is way better obvs – but the Ash one is so rude! Surely I’m not the only one seeing the red cake as him going down on a heavily-menstruating lady? RUDE! And not a thought I really want to have had about Tim Wheeler :/
Hello, Ive been plotting to do cake based video with Lilly Vanilli for a long time, and I felt like this track was the perfect fit for a sexy / grotesque cake treatment.
Yes the hand shots are similar, yet I can honestly say that I was completely unaware of Margaritas films existence, and as I pride myself on craft and originality im devastated to read these accusations.
Margarita and I have already settled this between us.
food and sex is a pretty obvious subject, hands sensually touching food is just about the most obvious thing ever, so theres no wonder our films share similarities, I guess theres only so many ways you can capture such subject matter.
Its all about visual treatment at the end of the day and thats where the similarities end.
The inspiration for mine came from the lyrics of the song, and Lillys existing cake designs.
Hmmm. I’m not so sure. The Wet Dog one certainly has some kind of grungey ‘cool’ factor about it, but I don’t think it”s fair to say that just because the Ash video has higher production values, that it’s any less artistic or worthy of appreciation. I love how the Wet Dog video looks like an 80′s cooking programme., but I actually preferred the Ash video to watch; the stark juxtoposition between the clean imagery and the dirty visual suggestions is seriously affective.
Not loving the song though. Christ. Hello mediocrity.
