Music Video Monday… California Gurls
It’s widely accepted that, when it comes to most things, the original is the best. Fame, The Karate Kid, Whatever Happened To Baby Jane? – though copies and subsequent versions have been made of many things, the originals often are, in fact, the best.
Not always though.
Though I wanted to hate Katy Perry’s song California Gurls from the first moment I heard it, there are some things that are so infectious you can’t help but want to hear them again and again. Once I saw the video though, I was somewhat appeased – at least there was one thing I could hate about it. Though the song itself is catchy as hell, the accompanying video is somewhat disappointing, with lacklustre dancing, questionable confectionary clothing, the somewhat disturbing consumption of a gingerbread man with a heart and uh… that ending. I’ve been saying it for years: gays do it better.
