Rihanna’s Te Amo Video – pretty gay right?

Rihanna has come on our gay-radars before – for her powerful raunchy songs, being smoking hot, saying she’d consider having a relationship with a woman and oh yes for releasing a steamy music video where she romps around a mansion with French supermodel dancing provocatively and suggesting lesbian sex. The video has been kicking around since Spring, but I’d never actually read the Te Amo lyrics before and was just surprised to discover they are like well different to the impression given in the video. Going by the words, it’s a tender song that’s kinda about love – long-lasting friend love, but not sex bit: “Then she put her hand around me waist / I told her no / She cried Te amo /Told her I’ll never run away but let me go”. (The “me waist” bit is cute, right?)

But the video brushes away the friendship bit and really ramps up the sex. In fact, it’s all about sex. And while Rihanna may say she’s saying “no”, she is totes the one starting on the corsetted brunette sex kitten that she has invited over to her gothic mansion. Just kissing her neck, massaging her chest, sliding her head down her thighs – all the sort of things that are going to send out a really mixed message if you’re still saying no.
