RIP Sosho: Mannequin venue up in flames
by Petit Fours
It’s not every weekend that you decide not to go out because the place you meant to go to is a smouldering heap of rubble. But that literally happened on Saturday when the venue that hosts monthly night Mannequin burnt down. Sosho and the East Room were part of a building on Tabernacle Street near Liverpool Street station that went up in flames last Wednesday morning. No-one was hurt, but the building is gone gone gone.
Sure it wasn’t the most beautiful venue in the world. It did have a carpet that reminded me of the carpet in Belfast International Airport and not in a good way, and perhaps it had more space than atmosphere. Also there was this awkward conversation in the toilets last time I was there and everyone looked at me like they expected me to say something and I just said huh and blushed – but that is nobody’s fault but my own.
Anyway. It was a venue and I had good fun the night I went there.
So rest in peace venue, if you do that.
