Everyone’s favourite dire lesbian series is back – and it’s whiter than ever.
Okay, so I know I sound like a whining, repetitive bitch about this – and maybe I should just shut up and be like, yeah, they’re all white, all the time, get over it, etcetera etcetera, but they were EVER SO SLIGHTLY ON TRACK AT THE END OF LAST SEASON SO WTF HAPPENED? … Continue Reading

Last week I was fortunate enough to find myself celebrating the 25th London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival alongside my very own birthday shenanigans. Sleep would have to be a stranger for a couple of days if I wanted to squeeze in all that energy, entertainment and excitement, and keep the juicy bits. … Continue Reading
It’s rare to find written work that is as quietly beautiful as Ivan E Coyote’s. This queer writer and spoken word performer manages to encapsulate, in her short stories and accounts, a picture of what it is like to be gay, to have a queer identity, and to deal with the smaller things, the everyday and the mundane, so to speak. The events she relays are not monumental, and this, I think, is a good thing – too often, queer literature focuses on the larger events: coming out, for example. … Continue Reading
I was in New York recently and had the most amazing opportunity to get my big, gay geek on. The Lesbian Herstory Archives were started as a tiny collection by Joan Nestle, Deb Edel and a group of other, mostly gay, women in New York 36 years ago. What began as a smaller movement, a collection formed in the back room of Joan’s apartment has grown into a fantastic, thorough look at mainly American lesbian history, artwork, political movements and social contributions over the years. … Continue Reading
**SPOILER ALERT** If you don’t watch Glee episodes when they come out in the US, and you don’t want to have what’s in store ruined, then look away, look away now. … Continue Reading

It’s the time of year when the average film-goer is awash with hard decisions (so that’ll be Oscar season then). Do I spend my hard earned on The King’s Speech so that I can praise Mr Darcy for his excellent stutter and state proudly, “The Queen Mum was sexy in her day. Dammit!”? Or is this Orange Wednesday to be spent with Black Swan? Kunis, Portman, cunning linguistics and tutus (it would appear to be a no-brainer, although both are brilliant in their own right). … Continue Reading

Dear readers, The Most Cake is hosting a film showing on the 8th April as part of the Fringe! film fest and we’d like you to tell us what you’d like to see. We were asked to pick a fun lez classic, so we’ve lined up four of our favourites and then thought we’d leave it up to you guys… They’re all great. … Continue Reading
Let’s face it: most reality TV shows are total, total crap. With the exception of cooking shows like Top Chef (I love you Padma Lakshmi) and Masterchef, the reality TV show is generally considered the lowest form of televised entertainment – and with good reason, if shows like The Bachelorette and Tool Academy are anything to go by. The people in these shows aren’t just stupid or pretentious or badly-behaved … Continue Reading
Ever watched a music video and thought that you could do better? Or listened to a song and had a really vivid image of how you’d do the video?
I have. I’m totally obsessed with music videos – this is probably why MVMs are one of my favourite things EVAR and why taking me anywhere near G-A-Y bar on a date is a really bad idea – I just stare at the screens the WHOLE TIME. Anyway I was digging through some old files on my computer … Continue Reading
I’d heard a lot more about Kiran Rao’s Dhobi Ghat [Mumbai Diaries] than I knew before seeing it. It was too arty. It wasn’t Bollywood enough. It was depressing. It left things unresolved. So walking into the theatre, I was ambivalent about what I was about to see. … Continue Reading
If you read webcomics, and know anything about them, you’ve likely come across Megan Gedris before. The 23 year-old artist and writer of such gems as Yu+Me Dream and …Lesbian Pirates From Outer Space is kind of a tour de force in online artistic storytelling – and if you’re a gay lady, you’re likely to love her stuff even more. Now that her seminal project, the aforementioned Yu+Me Dream, has been completed, we talk to her about where she came from, where she is and where she’s going. … Continue Reading
