5 lesbian web series you should watch
A secret: I spend way too much time on the internet. Like, seriously. Way too much time. On the plus side, I’ve now watched enough lesbian web series to write an article, so it can’t be all bad, right?
Starring: Cathy DeBuono and Jill Bennett, who are awesome. Also Suzanne Westenhoefer.
You may remember them from And Then Came Lola, which showed at this year’s LLGFF. You may just know them because they’re awesome. We Have To Stop Now is about two successful shrinks, who are married to each other, who have written a book about being successfully married to each other and who are therefore in desperate need of some psychological help themselves. It’s pretty damn funny, not least because the cast, including the fantastic Suzanne Westenhoefer, are, you know, pretty damn good.
Starring: Rachael Hip-Flores and Nicole Pacent
OMG TEEN DRAMA. And nobody does drama like the lez-beens. ADMIT IT. Anyone But Me follows a young lesbian couple in a post-9/11 New York, where one moves to a different town and then they both try RILLY RILLY hard to stay together. It’s pretty good. And it’s won a Streamy.
3. Girltrash
Starring: Michelle Lombardo and Lisa Rieffel alongside a veritable who’s who of lesbian icons, including Rose Rollins, Amber Benson, Margaret Cho and SO MANY MORE.
As lesbian web series go, this is definitely one of the best – Angela Robinson, who directed D.E.B.S., amongst others, and countless episodes of The L Word, is a treasure and the storyline and acting behind Girltrash is fucking great. There was even talk of a movie, which finished shooting in February this year, but there’s no word yet on when we’ll get to see it. Fingers crossed it’s soon. Girltrash has 11 episodes (so far..?)
B.J. Fletcher: Private Eye – Episode 1
Uploaded by bjfletcherprivateeye. – Discover LGBT videos.
Starring: Lindy Zucker and Dana Puddicombe, amongst others.
I started watching this way back when I still read AfterEllen religiously. Well-shot and actually well-written, this show follows a lesbian PI and her trusty sidekick, and is entertaining as. Not exactly serious though – so if you’re after drama, this might not be your cuppa. But if you want a comedy? Hilare.
5. The Guild
Starring: Felicia Day, Sandeep Parikh, Amy Okuda, Vincent Caso, Jeff Lewis, Robin Thorsen
Okay so this last one isn’t ostensibly gay – in fact, it’s pretty much not gay at all (except for one, minor character, and we only find out about her much later on, and she’s pretty awful anyway). BUT given that Felicia Day is a Joss Whedon fixture, and has been in Dollhouse and Dr. Horrible’s Sing-a-long, to name a few, AND given the fact that she is super awesome, I figure you’ll want to watch this one anyway. Or at least, you should. Need convincing? Watch this:

It’s always a good time to watch Felicia Day.

But it’s got Rosario Dawson! ROSARIO DAWSON!
