Things Lesbians Like #4: Staying friends with the ex.
Last week’s TLL was something that hit me close to home - in fact, I’ve started a new chart and it’s disgusting. So I thought I’d broach a subject that was completely alien to me – the whole lesbians being friends with their exes thing. In a way, this is an offshoot of the Chart – take a look at yours and count the number of people you’re linked to that you still talk to. And while you’re there, check if you’re linked to your best friend. Probability? High.
Now, I guess there’s a good reason for this particular phenomenon. The lesbian world isn’t exactly a huge, unlimited ocean – it’s a lot smaller than one would think. So part of the reason could be mere necessity – if we want to retain lesbian friends, we can’t just go around alienating everyone we’ve slept with.
On the other hand, I’ve successfully managed to lose contact with practically every girl I’ve ever shared anything more than a kiss with – probably because thinking about the things I’ve done makes me slightly green at the gills. However, I’m probably an anomaly, because from a logical viewpoint, if you’ve been close enough to someone that you were physically intimate with, surely there’s something you like about them as people – something you’d want them to stick around for.
We could also go the scenic route and suggest that lesbian relationships end better than others – so we stay friends along the way. I mean, lesbians are far more mature than regular people, right? Sure – except for the time I broke up with a girl while we were out, and she stalked me around Ghetto wanting to ‘talk’ until I had to leave because she just wouldn’t stop. Or the time my friend had to extract herself from an incredibly acrimonious situation because the girl she was involved with was involved with someone else (in a different country!) that she clearly was not going to break up with. Or the time… I think you see where this is going.
To be honest, though I know there is a basis for this whole concept, it doesn’t apply to me, so the real reasons lesbians stay friends with their exes is a mystery. Is it even real? Am I just making this all up?

I’m friends with almost all of them, for exactly the reasons you say – there is something I like about them as people, and I got rather close to them. For that reason, I’m friends with every girl I’ve ever had any kind of emotional turmoil with, but not with random one night stands. I think its less about people you’ll slept with and more about those that got inside you in other ways.

I think there’s a tendency to shred to pieces and by that time everyone forgets what the hell it’s all about… we’re all ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff……..ffffffffffriends.
